“My Darling Dolls” is a series of handcrafted dolls and furniture items. This project was exhibited in the DUndee v&a in 2023.
The series aims to critique the plastic disposable culture of our society by creating fragile toys that must be treated with care. the collection is a reclamation of the inner child and an exploration of femininity in youth.
I wanted to make very stylised and unique dolls, allowing me the chance to experiment with materials and techniques.
I created this dollhouse and further furniture pieces to go along with the dolls for the exhibition at the v&a. The dollhouse is more of a mockup, but it is to scale and reflects the aesthetics I was aiming for in the series as a whole.
This work was part of a module 'Designs for Living: Domestic Object'. I spent a semester in the ceramics workshop learning all the skills to complete my own project. This included hand-building, mould-making, glazing, wheel turning and more.
